Kengai literally means cascade.

It represents the fight for survival in a harsh, hostile environment. Plants are modelled after trees that grow from banks over water or down the side of a mountain. The apex of a cascade style falls below the base of the pot. The beauty of this style consists in the harmony of the descending movement of the branches and the ascending growth of the leaves.

Our Pinus densiflora Pendula has been modelled to realized the original Kengai forms, the so-called Ito Kengai where branches hang like ropes. Its crooked orange branches fall hanging like ropes while the green needles tend to the sky.
